Volvo EX30 Pros & Cons: What India’s Upcoming Electric SUV Offers (Image Source: team-bhp)
Volvo is all set to launch its new electric SUV, the EX30, in India by September 2025, with customer deliveries starting a month later. The EX30 will be the company’s smallest and most affordable electric model, but it still carries the premium Volvo design and safety standards. Despite its compact size, the SUV comes with modern features, advanced safety tech, and has already received a five-star Euro NCAP rating. We took a closer look at the EX30, and here’s a breakdown of its pros and cons for buyers.
The Volvo EX30 has an attractive design that grabs attention, taking inspiration from the latest Volvo models. It feels solidly built both inside and outside. Safety is one of its biggest strengths, with a five-star Euro NCAP score, advanced driver assistance systems, and several smart safety technologies. The SUV is equipped with premium features such as LED headlights with active high beam, a large panoramic sunroof, one-pedal driving technology, button-less start, an air purifier, a Harman Kardon nine-speaker sound system, and even an NFC key card. These features make it feel modern and well-equipped.
On the mechanical side, the Volvo EX30 uses a powerful setup that produces 268 bhp and 343 Nm of torque. Its rear-wheel-drive system ensures quick acceleration, taking the car from 0–100 km/h in just 5.3 seconds. For range, the SUV is expected to deliver over 400 km on a single charge in real driving conditions, which will be more than enough for most daily and long-distance needs.
One noticeable issue is the driver’s rear visibility, which is restricted due to the small rear windshield and thick C-pillars. Passengers at the back, especially taller ones, may also feel uncomfortable because of the high floor design. In addition, the EX30 comes with a 318-litre boot, which is smaller compared to many other SUVs in this category.
Most of the functions and displays are controlled through the central touchscreen. This can be confusing for some drivers and takes time to get used to. The absence of physical buttons may also distract drivers while driving. Despite being a luxury SUV, it misses out on features such as ventilated seats, a head-up display, rear AC vents, and a rear centre armrest — features that are available even in more affordable cars under ₹20 lakh.
